What to do in Tarzo in autumn? Castagne in piazza 2022
Where and when does the Castagne in piazza event take place?
The 2022 edition of Castagne in Piazza will take place in October in Colmaggiore, a hamlet of Tarzo. Organized by the local Pro Loco, the event takes the visitor on a sensory itinerary that begins with the collection of chestnuts, enclosed in their spiny husks lying on a carpet of golden leaves of majestic chestnut groves, and leads to the village square where large Ristirale, the characteristic perforated pans for cooking chestnuts, are placed on the crackling fire to release the sweet and unmistakable aroma of the quintessential autumn fruit.
Jams, creams, honey, biscuits, as well as various types of pasta and beer specialties are just some of the chestnut-based products with which to make delicious recipes to accompany with top-choice wines and cheeses.
Thousands of people flock to the festive squares to remove the toasted skins of the chestnuts, being careful not to burn their fingers to enjoy the sweet and soft content.
For those who wonder what to do in Tarzo and find the charm of autumn irresistible, Castagne in piazza is an event not to be missed!
Giardino Museo Bonsai di Tarzo
Located at Via Roma, 6, 31020 Tarzo (TV), the evocative natural oasis grows lush near the parish church of the historic center of Tarzo, thanks to the passion, care and skill of Armando dal Col and his wife Haina.
The vast and refined bonsai collection, called SEI WA BONSAI EN, which in Japanese means “bonsai garden of serenity”, lies on the slopes of a hill reachable via ancient stone stairways that seem to give access to a fantastic world of ancient and fragile beauty.
Harmoniously inserted in the suggestive educational garden, splendid ash trees, larches (larix decidua), birches, hornbeams, cherry trees, mountain pines, peach specimens and a wonderful flowering quince, as well as a majestic centuries-old beech patriarch emerge.
If you are eager to explore enchanting and exclusive landscapes, discover the impressive arboreal heritage that characterizes this wonderful and fascinating natural oasis, as well as contemplate the rare beauty of ancient and delicate plants from distant lands, or devote yourself to quiet meditation immersed in a peaceful and radiant environment magically isolated from the rest of the world, visiting the lush botanical garden of Haina and Armando Dal Col will be an unforgettable experience.
La Via dei Murales
The ancient villages of the historic center of Tarzo are dotted with valuable and fascinating paintings made on the walls of rural buildings, depicting lively representations related to the daily life and sociability of the inhabitants, the true protagonists of these works linked to the world of craftsmanship and field work, to which are associated images of mythical and folkloric nature: a suggestive example is the representation of an intricate woodland site that serves as a backdrop to a legendary episode in which a group of woodcutters meets mischievous elves perched on tree branches.
The colorful murals of their creation immortalize exciting scenes of a familiar nature, sometimes related to the difficulty of maintaining relationships with loved ones due to poverty and the consequent need to emigrate to find work abroad.
Other images focus on traditional jobs and illustrate the production process of cheese, agricultural tools, and bricks. Other scenes show the alternation between the dynamism of moments of celebration, leisure and rest, and the slow rhythms with which nature marks the hard work in the fields.
The sinuous alleys of the picturesque historic center await only to be explored to reveal to the eyes of visitors glimpses of a past world kept alive thanks to collective memory, expressed and fueled by passion, art and creativity.
Parco dei Laghi a Revine Lago e Va de Le Femene
Located about 2 km from the center of Tarzo, the naturalistic itinerary of the Parco Regionale dei Laghi di Revine e Tarzo aims to enhance the precious heritage of floral, arboreal and faunal biodiversity that grows lush in the evocative marsh ecosystem of the two ancient glacial lakes.
The lakes of Santa Maria and Lago di Lago were part of a larger basin that originally extended to the moraine formation at Gai in Cison di Valmarino.
One of the areas of greatest natural interest is the Va dee Femene, an oasis located in Colmaggiore di Tarzo south of Lake Santa Maria, a suggestive corner of nature surrounded by evocative reed beds and splendid water lilies where washerwomen once went and which still constitutes an important meeting place for the local population.
The nature reserve represents the ideal place both for diving and swimming in the clear, fresh and inviting waters of these wonderful bodies of water, and for undertaking suggestive naturalistic itineraries about 5 km long that go into the lush and luxuriant tree and floral vegetation offering hikers breathtaking panoramic views visible from an observation tower.
