The Fojaroi trail
The starting point of the route is the parish church of San Luigi Gonzaga, beside the headquarters of the Alpini group in the hamlet of Pian della Chiesa.
We leave the entrance to the cemetery on our left and continue along Via Valgranda toward Motta. After about 600 meters, we reach a picturesque stone village nestled on a bright wooded slope, just before which is the entrance to the Fojaroi trail, a loop itinerary that winds through the Feltrino area of the Grappa Massif.
The first stop on the route is a lovely aedicule-style chapel dedicated to the Madonna. The winding path leads into dense vegetation of ferns, maples, and beeches until it reaches Col dei Bof. Located at 680 meters above sea level, the enchanting settlement lies on a green hill dotted with walnut trees, black locusts, oaks, hazel trees, firs, and many other lush tall trees. From the hill’s privileged vantage point, you can take in the extraordinary mountain panorama surrounding the village.
The trail plunges into the splendid woodland cloaked in manna ash, dogwood, hornbeams, and downy oaks, whose canopies shade vivid flowering species such as meadow vetchling, lesser periwinkle, and snapdragon.
The well-marked route leads to the fojaroi, ancient structures linked to high-altitude grazing activities, skillfully set into the sunny mountain slope.
If you’re wondering what to do in Seren del Grappa, this captivating 9 km itinerary is recommended for hiking enthusiasts eager to explore a fairytale-like place suspended in time, where you can discover some of the most fascinating historic, cultural, and natural sites of the Lower Feltrino area.
The church of Santa Maria Immacolata
Located in Piazza Monte Grappa, this immaculate place of worship stands out for a majestic double-pitched façade, facing northwest and vertically divided into three sections by four Corinthian semi-columns resting on tall bases. Completing the vertical development of the front are the architrave, frieze, and triangular pediment.
Set above three steps, the massive wooden portal is topped by a tympanum supported by two graceful brackets.
The exposed-stone bell tower that rises beside the church is crowned by a soaring spire resting on an octagonal drum. Beneath the belfry stand three clocks with Arabic numerals.
Framed by acacias, firs, maples, birches, and plum trees, the bright single nave of the place of worship is enhanced by a fine pipe organ, splendid altars in polychrome marble, and priceless frescoes decorating the nave ceiling.
With your back to the massive entrance portal, the gaze opens onto the extraordinary mountain landscape of Seren del Grappa, dominated by Monte Roncon and crossed by the winding course of the Piave river.
