Where is Monteviale located?
The municipality of Monteviale borders to the north with Costabissara, to the south with Creazzo, to the south-east with Vicenza, to the south-west with Sovizzo, to the east with Vicenza, to the west with Gambugliano and Sovizzo.
The Sagra dell’Ottava
This centuries-old tradition takes place every year in April. The 2022 edition of the Sagra dell’Ottava was held from April 22 to 24 at the A. Martini sports field.
A recommended appointment for food lovers, the event offers a menu rich in dishes that showcase both traditional Veneto cuisine and overseas cultures.
In addition to the indulgent dishes of local cuisine such as pork shank, sizzling grilled sausages, sandwiches filled with steaming wood-fired porchetta, spit-roasted chickens drizzled with olive oil and flavored with rosemary, and the delicious homemade pasta with ragù, you can also order inviting specialties of Mexican cuisine such as nachos, crispy and tasty fragments of corn tortilla, and burritos, appetizing durum wheat tortilla stuffed with ground pork or beef, refried beans (garnish based on black beans first boiled and then sautéed with onion and chilli pepper), melted cheese and chilli pepper.
The bridge that will unite the gastronomy of the two continents will be the exquisite slices of grilled yellow polenta, a representative recipe of the Po Valley based on corn, a plant native to the lush mountainous regions of Central America.
Making the spring evenings even more lively and dynamic will be the engaging musical performances during which you can let loose to Latin American rhythms, country sounds, and the overwhelming sounds of talented DJs.
If you are wondering what to do in Monteviale and want to experience carefree moments in good company with glasses of wine, mugs of craft beer, delicious specialties, and fun dance evenings, taking part in the Sagra dell’Ottava might be just for you!
Villa Zileri Motterle
Located on Viale Zileri, 4/6, the sumptuous architectural complex is harmoniously set within a large park dotted with centuries-old trees where the dark crowns of majestic cedars with pungent fronts stand out.
The main body of the 18th-century residence is spread over three levels and on the main floor features an elegant arched door protected by a white parapet, above which stands an elaborate noble coat of arms.
Flanked by imposing barchesse marked by wide arches, the splendid house is internally decorated with spectacular frescoes of allegorical nature by Giovanni Battista Tiepolo.
The parish church of Santa Maria Assunta
Located on Via Castello, 29, the thousand-year-old church stands on a hill framed by well-aligned linden and plane trees from which you can enjoy a wide view of the boundless hilly landscape covered in arboreal vegetation and dotted with the roofs of houses that shrink on the horizon like miniatures.
Crowned by a lunette decorated with a sacred high-relief depiction, the massive wooden portal is preceded by a porticoed area marked by three arches, the central one, larger in size, supported by Corinthian columns.
In the side sections of the façade, two arched single-lancet windows open, surmounted by oculi, while in the center of the façade, above the three arches, an elegant five-light window opens.
Completing the vertical development of the stone church is a cross with trefoil ends. A further ornamental feature are the hanging arch motifs and dentils that follow the profile of the church’s rooflines.
Monteviale Medioevale and Castle Christmas Markets
Nestled among serene wooded slopes, the picturesque stone village is the ideal setting for historical reenactments during which the squares and winding streets of the center come alive with musicians, artisans, and flag-wavers whose flamboyant fluttering coats of arms and ancient melodies belie the widespread notion that portrays the Middle Ages as a dark era.
In addition to Monteviale Medioevale (the 2022 edition was held on May 15 in Piazzetta Baruffato), an event aimed at illustrating the delicate activities of monk scribes, goldsmiths, weavers, potters, tanners, and carpenters through live demonstrations and engaging workshops, during the Christmas holidays the crisp winter days of the picturesque town come alive with sparkling armor and colorful pavilions where you will find a vast mosaic of handicrafts that will make your Christmas decorations even more original.
