Where is Monte di Malo?
The municipality of Monte di Malo borders to the north with San Vito di Leguzzano, to the northeast with Malo, to the northwest with Schio, to the south with Cornedo Vicentino, to the east with Malo, to the west with Valdagno and Cornedo Vicentino.
The feast of Madonna della Neve
The celebration of Our Lady of the Snow takes place every year in the first half of August. The 2022 edition was held from August 4 to 7 in the locality of Campipiani di Priabona. The festival commemorates the unusual, perhaps miraculous snowfall that occurred on August 5, 358, after which Pope Liberius decided to build a basilica in honor of Mary on the Esquiline Hill, on whose summit the snowfall had taken place.
The popular festival takes place at the church of Madonna della Neve in Campipiani di sotto, a charming village nestled on green hills marked by terraces bounded by dry-stone walls and framed by hedges of acacias, poplars, and willows.
The enchanting village is enclosed between the wooded heights of Montepulgo to the east and the peaks of the municipality of Cornedo Vicentino to the west, among which stand out the summits of monte Nudo and monte Verlaldo.
An ideal appointment for food lovers, the event takes place under the banner of top-quality local food and wine. The rich indulgent menu includes grilled meat dishes such as ribs and luganega, a spiced pork sausage to be accompanied with delicious pepper stews, slices of grilled polenta, and bread baked in an ancient medieval oven.
The fair also includes pleasant walks along splendid wooded slopes from which you can admire vast panoramic views that the rich natural heritage of the municipality has to offer.
If you are wondering what to do in Monte di Malo and are curious to discover the lively folklore of a pleasant and peaceful hilltop village in the Vicenza area, participating in the event will be a memorable experience!
The chestnut festival
The 2022 edition of the chestnut festival was held from October 29 to November 1 at the church of San Giuseppe in Via Europa, 11.
Made fertile by the high concentration of sulfur, magnesium, potassium, phosphorus, and calcium, the lava soil in the area where the Muciòn, a majestic inactive volcano, dominates, has a remarkable porosity that allows it to retain water for long periods and thus favor the lush development of ancient chestnut trees.
In addition to the delicious roasted chestnuts, the undisputed protagonists of the event, you can taste in the large dining areas exquisite bigoli with wild boar ragu, toasted polenta served with tasty scopetòn, the dialect term for Atlantic herring, as well as local dairy products, peasant dishes based on potatoes and beans, cabbage and luganega, to name just a few of the tasty courses, to be paired with top-quality typical wines that characterize the food and wine richness of the municipality.
For sweet lovers, there will also be homemade frittelle and mulled wine, a drink made from red wine, sugar, cloves, star anise, cinnamon, apple, and orange zest.
For those who wish to taste culinary specialties from a healthy and lush land, explore an uncontaminated environment, and contemplate the crackling fires where the large perforated pans for cooking the delicious chestnuts with thick blackened skin are stirred, the chestnut festival will be an unmissable event!
The buso della rana
The buso della rana is the deepest natural cavity in the Veneto region. Accessible from the Maddalena hamlet, the majestic karst cave delves into the bowels of the Faedo-Casaron plateau.
Crystalline lakes, suggestive geological formations and winding fissures create a mysterious environment of caverns and labyrinthine tunnels that, with their unpredictable and dangerous shapes, constitute an underground treasure chest of irresistible charm, hidden from human eyes for millions of years.
To reach the natural site, you can leave your car at the Incantamonte restaurant, where the vast grassy area of the buso della Rana park is located.
