According to the liturgical calendar, the Assumption of Mary into the Kingdom of Heaven falls on August 15, but the celebration of this sacred belief also takes place in the days leading up to this date. In 2022, the festival was held from August 9 to 15, as every year, at the Franciscan friars’ convent in Via Pieve, 170.
To the solemnity of the religious ceremonies that will take place in the convent and in the evocative Lourdes grotto, the event combines the jovial and carefree atmosphere of an old-time fair with dancing evenings to the rhythm of Latin American sounds, country music, and classic ballroom orchestras.
An unmissable appointment for food lovers, in the dining areas set up in the shade of the lush linden trees in Via Pieve Bassa you can quench your thirst with mugs of craft beer, ideal for refreshing yourself during the warm evenings of the beautiful season, as well as savor gastronomic specialties including gourmet pizzas, succulent hamburgers, sandwiches rich in cold cuts, exquisite grilled meats and roast meat with vegetables and fried potatoes.

The Lovara Quarry Lakes
The starting point of the itinerary to discover this pleasant naturalistic location is the asphalted area next to the church of San Biagio in Via Vignaga, 18, 36072 Vignaga (VI). Proceed westwards leaving the church of San Biagio on your right and keep right onto Via Vignaga Bassa. Continue on Via Vignaga leaving the elementary school on your right. After passing the Antica Vignaga brewery, continue to the first hairpin bend and take the dirt road that leads to the Lovara quarry lakes.
The two icy bodies of water formed where a marble quarry once stood; its abandonment allowed the dense tree and shrub vegetation that surrounded the area to make its way through the rock blocks, giving new life to the environment that had been uprooted and eliminated by human intervention during the mining period.
If you are wondering what to do in Chiampo and wish to contemplate a charming oasis immersed in greenery and silence, a biodiversity treasure chest where time seems to have stood still, the Lovara Quarry Lakes certainly deserve a visit!
The church of San Biagio
The charming place of worship is perched on a grassy hillock bordered by a dry stone wall and dotted with pale olive trees and towering cypresses.
Plastered white except for the cornerstones, the small church features a simple gabled facade with a massive wooden door surmounted by a high-relief decoration above which a circular opening stands out.
Erect next to the church rises the bell tower with a square base. The belfry has four balustraded single-lancet windows and is crowned by elegant battlements.
From the dominant position of the church of San Biagio, you can embrace with your gaze the boundless scenery of sinuous slopes furrowed by lush rows of vineyards and dotted with rural dwellings, from this perspective their distant tiny red roofs fading into the horizon among the bright wooded hills.
