Discover what to do in Cartigliano: the Basse del Brenta trail, Villa Morosini Cappello, the feast of St. Oswald. Want to know more? First of all…
Where is Cartigliano?
The municipality of Cartigliano borders to the north with Bassano del Grappa, to the northeast with Rosà, to the south with Tezze sul Brenta, to the southwest with Pozzoleone, to the east with Rosà and Tezze sul Brenta, to the west with Nove and Pozzoleone.
The Basse del Brenta trail
Lush specimens of elm, acacia, laurel, poplar, willow, mulberry, plane tree, elder, hazel, alder and privet are just some of the tree species that make up the complex and vital plant biodiversity heritage of the park.
An ideal destination for those seeking a peaceful location immersed in greenery, the trail winds along the winding and ever-changing banks of the river born from the clear lake basins of Caldonazzo, splendid lakes surrounded by vast expanses of red firs and whose icy waters lap at dense reed beds and water lilies.
To reach the enchanting natural destination, you can leave your car in the parking lot of the Fair Play stadium, located at Via Zamberlan, 9, framed by plum trees and black poplars.
Cross the pedestrian crossings and climb a small wooden and stone staircase surrounded by the large canopies of two acacias. Follow the pleasant dirt track sheltered by the shade of towering cypress poplars and wild lindens and keep right until you reach a playground that includes two swings, one seesaw and one swing, two yellow and red spring horses and a climbing net.
Proceeding towards the riverbed, the dirt path leads to a panoramic point from which you can admire the riverbed strewn with smooth pebbles, the dense rows of trees among whose tangled branches, in the winter months, you can glimpse the dark profile of the mountains looming on the horizon and the course of the Brenta whose bed, marked in places by gradual and undulating rocky differences in height, creates suggestive small waterfalls.
From the winding paths, both towards northeast and southwest, you can enjoy the boundless views of the river islands where wild vegetation finds light by weaving through the white smooth stones, as well as dense forest formations where majestic bird specimens such as the falcon, the green woodpecker and the brown kite nest.
If you are wondering what to do in Cartigliano and wish to delve into a wild, enchanting and primordial dimension, a visit to the Basse del Brenta park, a bearer of life and theater of ancient battles (in 899 AD the wide riverbed saw the army of Berengario I and the hordes of Hungarian warriors opposing each other) will be a memorable experience!
Villa Morosini Cappello
One of the most significant cultural landmarks of the municipality, Villa Morosini Cappello is a grand 16th-century architectural complex harmoniously set in a pleasant centuries-old lawn bordered to the east by a row of well-aligned magnolias with dark and glossy leaves, to the north and south by imposing brick buildings punctuated by round arches.
Accessible via a white avenue, the stately home has a rectangular structure with massive pillars on the ground floor, and on the first floor a loggia rhythmically punctuated by Ionic columns alternating with elegant balustrades.
The main body, in a central position, rises on three levels and culminates with a refined classical pediment.
The feast of St. Oswald
The vast green area from which the noble residence rises hosts every year the feast of St. Oswald of Northumbria, sovereign of the eponymous Anglo-Saxon kingdom who lived in the 7th century.
The celebrations take place in the days immediately before and after August 5, the day of the saint’s death, featuring exciting live music shows, dazzling historical reenactments and banquets where you can taste food and wine specialties that enhance the quality and uniqueness of local cuisine.
