Sapori di Calvene and Cima Fonte
The event takes place every year at the end of September (the 2022 edition of Sapori di Calvene was held from 24 to 28 September) to promote the gastronomic specialties of a charming village nestled between sunny slopes crossed by the waters of the Astico and the Chiavona stream, and punctuated by suggestive hills covered in dense tree vegetation from which pleasant locations such as Cima Fonte emerge, which with a height of 1,518 m above sea level is one of the highest points of the southern side of the Asiago plateau, an ideal destination for hiking enthusiasts looking for breathtaking views.
The undisputed protagonists of the event are the typical dairy products to be savored with native wine excellences of Calvene and neighboring municipalities.
Rooted in millenary traditions that still resist the acceleration imposed by progress and industrialization, the processing of Calvene cheeses originates from the bright green mountain pastures surrounded by dense beech forests where grazing cows find the ideal environment and climate to produce top-quality milk.
On the occasion of the festival that brings together both the community and visitors from all over the Veneto, in the streets of the center you will find large pots of steaming milk that skilled cheesemakers stir with the rodela, a tool similar to a spoon with a long handle, to ensure that the temperature remains homogeneous and to mix the curd well.
Scattered along the winding streets of the village you will find tools used in the dairy sector such as aluminum milk transport containers, hand-woven baskets, wooden molds and the characteristic butter churn, a cone-shaped wooden tool used to turn cream into butter.

The church of Santa Maria dell’Annunciazione
Located in the historic heart of Calvene in Piazza della Resistenza and surrounded by dark and silent wooded hills, the place of worship consists of a central body, slightly advanced compared to the lateral sections, horizontally tripartite.
An elegant staircase leads to the door framed by two semi-columns supporting a massive architrave. Next to the portal, above which stands the inscription “D.O.M. in honorem B.M.V. ANNUNTIATAE A.D. MDCCCLII RES MCMXII”, there are two statues placed in semicircular niches.
A stringcourse separates the lower register from the central one bearing three paintings inserted in as many frames, two circular and one quadrangular.
Completing the vertical development of the structure is the triangular pediment with dentils, in the center of which appears the Eye of Providence, that is a radiant eye placed inside a triangle.
The church has a single nave punctuated by Ionic pilasters (recognizable by the characteristic volutes) that flank niches with round arches in which the side altars are located.
Standing out for historical value and skill in execution are a majestic painted wooden crucifix from the 15th century and a valuable painting depicting the Supper at Emmaus.
Another element of architectural value is the bell tower erected a short distance from the church. The structure features a Roman numeral clock along the shaft, separated by a dentil motif from the belfry in which four single-lancet windows with white balustrades open. Crowning the towering construction is a metal spire resting on an octagonal drum and surmounted by a cross that sparkles on sunny days.
