Origin of the Redentore festival
The plague epidemic that had afflicted the city of Venice in the second half of the 16th century was so devastating that once the last outbreaks of the terrible disease had dissipated, the senate of the Republic of Venice commissioned architect Andrea Palladio to design the church of the Santissimo Redentore.
Every year, to celebrate the end of the deadly calamity, a spectacular boat bridge is set up to connect Fondamenta Zattere ai Saloni to the campo del Santissimo Redentore in front of the grand Renaissance convent.
The festival program
A recommended rendezvous for good food lovers, the rich menu includes delicious dishes of bigoli and gnocchi with ragù, grilled meat and fried fish to pair with local wines and mugs of beer, as well as exquisite homemade desserts.

The Santa Caterina fair
November 25 is the day that commemorates the martyrdom of Saint Catherine of Alexandria, who lived in Alexandria, Egypt between the 3rd and 4th centuries. The 2022 edition of the fair took place from November 25 to 27.
On the occasion of the traditional popular event, thousands of participants, both locals and people from all over the region, fill the streets dotted with tasting points and pavilions where you will find local artisanal and agricultural products. The program also includes artistic and musical performances, exhibitions of agricultural machinery and a large catering area in Via Zonato where you can savor typical Vicenza cuisine that will make your mouth water.
The San Bernardino trail n° 81
Trail 81 winds for 10 km with an elevation gain of 375 meters. The starting point is the church of San Pietro Apostolo at Via Giuseppe Garibaldi, 16. Leave the facade of the place of worship behind you and proceed left (southeast) along Via Giuseppe Garibaldi for about 230 meters, then turn right into Via Calbin.
After 300 meters turn right into Contra’ dei Munari. Proceed for 300 meters along Contra’ dei Munari among rural stone buildings, tall dark firs, acacias and field maples behind which stand out bright grassy slopes punctuated by lush vineyards and pale olive trees with knotted trunks.
After passing the Alloggio Colli Berici Mulin Cuchei at Contra’ Munari 27, take a stone staircase on your right that leads to an ancient water mill surrounded by countryside vegetation.
The well-marked path goes into the pleasant heights covered with trees and shrubs whose branches form a fascinating natural corridor that at times, thinning out, gives way to fantastic panoramic views of sunny slopes and suggestive caves called covoli.
The most significant destination of the route from a cultural, historical and naturalistic point of view is the San Bernardino cave, a karst cavity that penetrates the rock for about 30 meters and which would have constituted, in the 15th century, the hermitage of San Bernardino da Siena.
If you are wondering what to do in Barbarano Mossano and are looking for a charming route that offers enchanting views of the formidable mass of the Berici Hills, trail 81 will definitely be for you!
