Sagra di San Fior di Sotto: Feast of the Madonna della Salute
Where and when does the Feast of the Madonna della Salute take place?
The traditional event takes place every November in the heart of the village of San Fior di Sotto. The centuries-old origins of the annual festival date back to the years when an epidemic of bubonic plague afflicted northern Italy from 1630 to 1631.
As a sign of gratitude towards the Madonna, it was decided to repeat the celebration every year and to erect in her honor the votive temple of Santa Maria della Salute, a splendid Baroque-style church.
The liturgical ceremony is combined with festivities and recreational activities. Musical performances are joined by food and wine events that highlight the local specialties: meat specialities, cold cuts, sausages, cheeses, exquisite varieties of mushrooms and of course the inevitable radicchio.
For those looking for things to do in San Fior, the Feast of the Madonna della Salute is one of the most significant events of this small town in the Treviso area.
Visit the church of Castello Roganzuolo
Where is the church of Castello Roganzuolo?
Located at Via Castello di Regenza, 1, 31020 Castello Roganzuolo (TV), the church of Saints Peter and Paul stands majestically on the top of the Castellari hill and represents one of the most precious and representative buildings of the municipality of San Fior.
Preceded by the towering mass of the bell tower crowned with Ghibelline battlements, the church alternates the unadorned whiteness of the external walls and the formidable pictorial complex that adorns its interior spaces.
Surrounded by majestic linden trees, dark cypresses, as well as pale and knotty olive trees scattered on the gentle slopes of the hill, the church was originally part of a medieval fortress that had been consumed by flames except for the place of worship and the tower later converted into a bell tower.
Internally, the walls of the church are animated by a dazzling pictorial apparatus created by some of the most prominent Renaissance masters including Titian Vecellio.
Villa Liccer
Where is Villa Liccer?
Located at Via Ferrovia, 26-27-28, 31020 San Fior di Sopra TV, Villa Liccer is a splendid noble residence dating back most likely to the 18th century.
The noble residence stands in the heart of the industrial and commercial area of San Fior, which poorly matches the original and vast rural environment in which the Villa was once immersed, as evidenced by the presence of several service buildings, typical elements of Venetian architecture, used as warehouses, storage, and to house those who worked on the agricultural estate.
Flanked by two smaller wings, the main body features round-arched, balustraded openings on the noble floor and the top floor, culminating in a dormer window adorned with sculptures.
Christmas at Oscar by Oscar Bontempo
Where is it and what makes Mr. Oscar Bontempo’s house so special?
Located at Via A. Diaz, 18, a charming little house in San Fior di Sopra offers every December 25th suggestive light displays thanks to the creativity, passion and experience of Mr. Oscar Bontempo, a retired electrician who for over forty years has set up in his garden a spectacular light display that fascinates visitors from all over the region.
Several studies indeed seem to confirm the beneficial influence of light and colors on the psyche: red has an exciting and stimulating effect while pink, at least for children, would have a calming effect. An experiment reveals that children’s drawings tend to be more positive when the kindergarten walls are painted pink.
Yellow is instead associated with dynamism, warmth, energy and vital force, one of the favorite shades masterfully used by Van Gogh, who, with brilliant simplicity, said: ‘How beautiful yellow is. It represents the sun.’
To enliven the bright artificial microcosm, the biting winter nights highlight with their dark and icy cloak the dazzling Christmas scenery, otherwise a faint and elusive glow on gray holidays.
When the dark blanket of clouds gives way to the black and clear vault, distant December constellations watch over the group of curious onlookers wrapped in coats, undecided whether to observe the cheerful play of flickering lights or turn their gaze to the sky and admire the pure glow of the stars.

Greater sensitivity regarding environmental protection and waste reduction motivates consumers, nowadays increasingly informed and aware, to give new life to objects otherwise destined, without good reason, to be forgotten in the attic or to end up in landfills.
The dogma of ‘fast fashion’ that for too long has characterized the clothing sector is fortunately undergoing a transformation process thanks to greater maturity and the affirmation of one’s own choices and personal tastes beyond the influence of big brands.
The transition from so-called ‘fast fashion’ to the circular economy will significantly reduce waste in light of the fact that, according to the European Commission and Parliament, the textile sector is responsible for 10% of greenhouse gas emissions.
In addition to enhancing the clothing sector, Mercatopoli offers a varied selection of furniture, antique and modern, books, manuals, works of art and crafts, musical instruments, electronics, telephones, bicycles, watches, all displayed in a large and bright environment.
For those wondering what to do in San Fior, for those who want to buy or sell items in excellent condition and for collecting enthusiasts eager to immerse themselves in an original, dynamic dimension where the only forbidden word is ‘obsolete’, the Mercatopoli store in San Fior is definitely a recommended destination!
