The church of Santa Maria Assunta
A work of the Venetian architect Baldassare Longhena, the majestic place of worship is located in Piazza Longhena, 10. The archpriest church stands out for its Baroque double-pitched façade punctuated by four Doric pilasters resting on high pedestals, above which stand the architrave, frieze, and denticled triangular pediment.
The place of worship is accessible from the west through three portals, the central one arched. Flanked by two smaller rectangular entrances, the central wooden door is framed by Corinthian pilasters and semi-columns surmounted by a denticled curved tympanum.
If you’re wondering what to do in Loreo, this architectural gem houses splendid treasures of sacred art, including spectacular pictorial works by Pietro Damini.
