Villa Bissari, Sforza, Colleoni
Located at Via Sant’Antonio, 37/39, Villa Bissari is one of the most significant architectural works in the municipality of Costabissara.
Built on the ruins of a thousand-year-old fortification, the sumptuous manor house extends over three floors and is crowned by a motif of hanging arches surmounted by refined Guelph battlements.
The northeast-facing façade has four windows with trilobed pointed arches on the ground floor. On the piano nobile there are four trilobed single-lancet windows, above which stand another four windows surmounted by round arches.
The noble residence is accessible through a mighty crenellated structure in which two portals open, culminating in pointed arches.
The front of the imposing entrance bears elaborate noble coats of arms, three pointed arch windows protected by wrought iron grilles and, at the bottom right, a sacred pictorial representation.
Harmoniously set in a enchanting wooded natural park, the stately home rises on a hill dotted with majestic ancient trees separated by soaring medieval walls from the radiant rural landscape of the small municipality bordering Vicenza.
Chiesa di San Giorgio Martire
Located at Via Roma, 7, the spectacular place of worship is set in the urban heart of Costabissara. The double-pitched façade has two superimposed orders culminating in a large denticulated triangular tympanum.
Rhythmed by bundles of Ionic pilasters, the base of the front is divided into five sections, the central one, wider, features a massive wooden door surmounted by a semicircular pediment and flanked by semicircular niches in which the sculptures of two saints are placed.
Divided into three sections by composite pilasters, the order has an elaborate rose window at the center, on the sides of which two niches with statues of saints open.
To conclude the vertical development of the front, a cross with trilobed ends soars on the top of the tympanum, bearing a quadrilobed opening at the center.
Along the side walls of the building, made of both stone and brick, elegant mullioned windows surmounted by oculi open.
Inside, the church has a single hall with a floor decorated with a checkerboard pattern.
The walls of the nave are rhythmed by wide arches framed by pilasters and bearing circular openings on the top. Two white columns anticipate the apse area, in the center of which is a valuable pipe organ.
