When talking about the Euganean Thermal Baths, it is not uncommon to hear mention of Abano Terme and Montegrotto Terme, known since ancient Roman times as “Aquae Patavinorum”.
For a relaxing holiday, to restore your energy or even for clinical purposes, they are undoubtedly a suitable destination. But they are not just renowned worldwide thermal centers: let’s see together what we can find in this area of natural wonders.
The Euganean Thermal Baths: Treatments
The thermal springs, located within four municipalities in the province of Padua (Abano Terme, Montegrotto Terme, Battaglia Terme and Galzignano Terme) boast a high quality standard, thanks to rigorous controls aimed at protecting the particular chemical composition that makes the water of the Euganean Thermal Baths unique in the world (and especially the regulation of use, to avoid waste).
The 4 most popular thermal treatments:
The thermal treatments that can be found in these springs are countless, among which stand out:
- Balneotherapy, excellent for problems related to joints, muscles, and also as a rehabilitation treatment following fractures or various physical traumas.
- Hydrokinesitherapy, which is practiced especially for subjects recovering from surgery or elderly people, aimed at the care and strengthening of muscle tissue.
- Mud therapy, which is mainly known for its positive effects on the skin.
- Inhalation therapies based on nebulized thermal water, to clear the airways, and thus prevent or treat various symptoms.
Not just the Euganean Thermal Baths
If we then wanted to add some interesting activities to our visit, we can go see the various museums in Padua, such as the Museo Internazionale della Maschera Amleto e Donato Sartori in Abano, which houses a collection of theatrical masks created by the two craftsmen, or the Casa delle farfalle in Montegrotto (or Butterfly Arc), where you can admire live butterfly specimens and learn about their life cycle and many other curiosities about them, still in Montegrotto we find the Roman excavations, evidence of the use of these “miraculous” springs already in ancient times. Alternatively, we can visit the Museo della Navigazione Fluviale in Battaglia Terme, or finally the Museo dei Colli Euganei in Galzignano.
