What to see in Fontanelle: Villa Galvagna Giol
Located at Via Calstorta, 137, 31043 Fontanelle (TV), the majestic stately residence is enveloped in the timeless enchanting atmosphere of a lush park dotted with centuries-old trees. The romantic neo-Gothic façade of the sumptuous dwelling overlooks a clear pond, from whose fresh waters emerges a charming islet often visited by elegant swans.
This fascinating architectural gem stands a short distance from the historic center of Oderzo, an ancient city built on the vestiges of Venetic peoples who inhabited the fertile lands crossed by the Lia and Monticano rivers thousands of years ago.
The sumptuous century-old palace we are fortunate to admire today is the result of Baron Emilio Galvagna’s desire to exploit the potential of a small, marginal and little-known rural plot of land, transforming it into one of the most majestic noble residences in the region, as well as a suitable place to welcome and entertain high-ranking guests from all over Europe.
The vast and lush park and the large, bright rooms of the palace have indeed hosted eminent personalities such as Natalija Obrenović, Queen of Serbia, and her future daughter-in-law Draga Mašin, as well as distinguished scholars like Theodor Mommsen, the famous German historian, philologist and archaeologist, and Richard Lionel Guidoboni Visconti, the alleged son of Honoré de Balzac.
The large, radiant and well-ventilated ground-floor hall can accommodate up to one hundred and twenty guests and can be set up to celebrate civil weddings and organize meetings and gala receptions in a magical and exclusive setting.
Should you wish to plan personalized events, the highly qualified staff will meet your needs with the utmost professionalism, in order to ensure that your experience is not only pleasant but unforgettable.
If you are looking for an enchanted place where reality blends with dreams, Villa Galvagna Giol will surely be right for you.
Church of Lutrano
The historical value of the Church of Lutrano is attested by its remote origins, already considered ancient as early as the 16th century.
Some documents from the 13th and 14th centuries hand down aspects of the pastoral life of the community of Lutrano, such as a visit by the Bishop of Ceneda Pietro Calza and a series of statements by Bishop Francesco Arpone, who in 1307 speaks of the “plebs of Lutrano”.
The oldest temple of which we have evidence is the one visited by Bishop Nicolò Trevisan on 12 November 1474 and consecrated in 1513.
The archipresbyteral church that can be admired today, located at via Bosco 2, stands white and majestic thanks to important renovation and restoration works carried out from 1832 to 1913, during which two side aisles were added to the central body of the building.
The devastations of the Great War did not prevent the reconstruction in Romanesque style of the gigantic bell tower destroyed in 1918.
The current version, built in Romanesque style, rises 55 meters, a height greater than that of the original structure.
