The bigoli co’ l’arna festival
One of the most representative types of pasta in Venetian cuisine dating back to the times of the Republic of Venice in the 14th century, bigoli are thick spaghetti made with eggs, durum and soft wheat flour. Known and loved throughout Italy, bigoli is a peasant dish, especially delicious when homemade.
The 2022 edition of the festival was held from September 30 to October 2 and takes place every year as usual in the vast spaces of the municipal sports facilities where large kitchens are set up, from which the metallic echo of pans stirred on the fires blends with the cheerful and noisy chatter of adults and children echoing against the plastic walls of the white tents, and the aroma of duck meat sizzling in boiling oil spreads among the long rows of well-aligned wooden tables.
Further enlivening the fair days will be live performances, from rock music to talented DJ sets, to an orchestra for ballroom dancing.
In addition to the bigoli with duck ragù, undisputed protagonists of the gastronomic event, the festival includes outdoor walks and dance evenings to Latin American rhythms.
If you are wondering what to do in Zanè and wish to partake in the carefree atmosphere of a lively popular celebration where you can taste mouth-watering specialties to accompany the region’s wine excellence, the bigoli co’ l’arna festival is definitely for you!
The church of Saints Peter and Paul
Located at Via Roma, 58, the parish church of Zanè rises in the historic heart of the quiet village in the upper Vicenza area. Accessible through a massive portal surmounted by an arched tympanum, the place of worship stands out for its white façade framed by Ionic pilasters and is topped by an elegant curvilinear pediment with fine moldings.
Illuminated internally by six windows placed along the sides of the building and an oculus opening at the top of the front, the place of worship has a single wide nave adorned with elaborate altars in polychrome marble and refined paintings framed by pilasters.
Also of notable charm is the large arch raised on four steps that precedes the presbytery, where the main altar stands out, enriched with splendid gilded decorations.
The water mill, Santa Rosa park
To visit the natural park of the municipality of Zanè, you can leave your car in Via Santa Rosa. The vast natural area is dotted with lush tree varieties, including plum trees, pink acacias, and ash trees that tower along the winding gravel path that snakes through the wide grassy area where several benches and fitness equipment are placed.
Following the path from Via Santa Rosa in a southwest direction, you will reach the ruins of an ancient mill complex powered by the waters of a mill stream dating back to the 13th century, along whose grassy banks a lush hedge grows.
Shaded by the branches of a majestic cherry tree, the ancient mill still preserves the old stone wheel for grinding grain.
