Abbazia di Sant’Eustachio

Over the centuries, the Benedictine site and the quiet natural setting in which it is located have attracted religious and intellectuals looking for a place to devote themselves to prayer, study, and the composition of literary works.
Targeted by Austrian artillery during the Great War, the monastic site is pervaded by an aura of mystery that fascinates thousands of visitors each year, eager to admire its solemn ruins and the spectacular landscape surrounding them.
Museo della battaglia del solstizio
Located at Via Bombardieri del Re 11, 31040 Nervesa della Battaglia (TV), the Museo della battaglia del solstizio retraces the phases of the conflict that took place from June 15 to 24, 1918 in the territories of Monte Grappa, Passo del Tonale, the Altopiano dei Sette Comuni and along the Piave front, where the future Nobel Prize in Literature Ernest Hemingway, then nineteen years old, served as a volunteer for the ARC (American Red Cross).
Fondazione “Jonathan Collection” aerei storici famosi O.N.L.U.S
The Fondazione “Jonathan Collection” is located at Via Frà Giocondo, 8a, near the monument to the Madonna Immacolata, mother of all those who fell in the Battle of the Solstice.
Situated between the course of the Piave and the eastern slopes of Montello, the foundation houses accurate reproductions of historic aircraft inside a World War I Bessonneau hangar , among which stands out a faithful replica of the Wright brothers’ Flyer from 1903, the first airplane in history to carry out powered, controlled, and repeated flights.
Thanks to the Fondazione ‘Jonathan Collection’, the history of aviation comes to life through the roar of the engines of extraordinary aircraft that, thanks to the passion and foresight of pilot Giancarlo Zanardo, founder and president of the Jonathan Collection Aerei Storici Famosi, can take off from the Francesco Baracca airfield, an opportunity not to be missed for those wondering what to do in Nervesa della Battaglia.
Bunker del sentiero brigata Lucca
The Brigata Lucca itinerary winds along the first defensive line of the Italian front, on the eastern side of Montello.
The trail starts from the Parrocchia del Santissimo Redentore in Santa Croce, at Via X Armata, 2. The itinerary includes six bunkers that in recent years have been recovered and restored thanks to funding from the Battaglia del Solstizio association and the participation of volunteers. To begin the route, take Via Luigi Lama.
The first bunker was a position for launching bombs or for mortar, used by British forces. For several years, before the intervention of volunteers, it was almost invisible due to the thick overgrown vegetation covering it.
The Busa de Banes housed a machine gun nest carved out of a rock ledge. It has two openings: the entrance, located to the south, and a second opening on the northern side, facing the Piave, where the machine guns were placed.
The Croda dei Zatteri housed two machine gun positions, dug with pickaxes into the walls of Montello. The cleaning work also brought to light the original staircase, a section of wall, and some pencil writings documenting the presence of the machine gun company that was stationed there.
Unfortunately, the fourth bunker was almost completely swept away by bombings. Only a connection to the trench remains, carved into the rock and reinforced with reinforced concrete.
If you are wondering what to do in Nervesa della Battaglia, undertaking this itinerary helps you understand more clearly the consequences of war on these places, through tangible testimonies that leave a deeper impression than words.
The natural landscape that envelops trenches and bunkers seems to remind us that not even the most terrifying tragedies can stop the silent and perpetual flowering of life.
