The Parauro wood: a biodiversity oasis
The suggested cycling route starts from the Parauro wood, a green lung of fifteen hectares located a short distance from the historic center.
Isolated from traffic noise and freely accessible all year round, the wooded area is characterized by a fragile and complex biodiversity heritage that includes majestic specimens of pedunculate oak, hazel, linden and poplar, to name just a few of the numerous tree species that are the habitat of brightly colored birds such as the robin and the wren, as well as various species of mammals and insects whose presence attests to the healthiness of the ecosystem in which they thrive.
An ideal location for those who want to do physical activity outdoors in a quiet and fairy-tale environment that seems suspended in a timeless dimension, the Parauro wood is certainly a recommended destination!
Villa Giustinian Morosini
From the parking lot in front of the Parauro wood (behind you is Farm K.Lorenz) head left towards the town center. At the roundabout, follow the cycle path and turn slightly left, cross the cycle crossing to your right, then turn right again and continue along Via Parauro. Continue for 850 meters along the cycle path that follows the Taglio canal, on whose banks grow lush black poplars, hornbeams and plane trees, then at the intersection turn right into Via Luigi Mariutto along which you will find, on your right, the entrance to the park of Villa Giustinian Morosini, a spectacular example of 17th-century architecture internally decorated with striking paintings.
The classical appeal of the manor house is distinguished by the four white pilasters on the piano nobile that support the architrave and the pediment crowned by three sculptures that complete the vertical development of the structure.
The stately residence is immersed in a pleasant centuries-old park consisting of a brilliant grassy expanse framed by the tall canopies of majestic trees, among which those of tall, dark cypresses stand out. The boundaries of the idyllic naturalistic scenery fade into the ancient garden of Villa Belvedere, reachable via a small bridge that crosses the Taglio canal.
The sumptuous 16th-century palace is flanked by rural service buildings and surrounded by a splendid romantic park that reproduces an idyllic and wild environment, characterized by lush vegetation and distinguished by the sinuous, winding and unpredictable features of pretty streams, hills, lakes and waterfalls that surprise and delight the visitor, at once spectator and witness of a natural dimension that appears primordial and uncorrupted by human intervention.
In this link you will find useful contacts and information about the park’s opening hours.
The suggestive little castle and the bell tower of the Mirano cathedral
Enveloped by lush tree vegetation, the little castle is an elegant octagonal turret with battlements, internally illuminated by Gothic-style mullioned windows. One of the most evocative elements of the park and the architectural complex of the Villa, the little castle is accessible through narrow and mysterious galleries.
Once you exit the property through the gate crowned by two sculptures (one of which depicts a man fighting a lion) turn left into Via Belvedere and continue along Via Castellantico until you reach Piazza Mercato, where the monument to the partisan and a column surmounted by the Lion of Saint Mark stand.
Surrounded by ancient porticoed palaces and historic cafes, the square offers a beautiful view of the imposing bell tower of the Mirano cathedral. Take Via Barche and continue until you find Piazza Nella e Nando Errera on your left, where you can refresh yourself in one of the many taverns facing a beautiful splashing fountain.
The return
Go back to Via Barche and continue along Via Taglio, crossing the bridge over the canal of the same name. Just before the roundabout, cross the pedestrian crossing and turn left into Via Dante. At the intersection turn left into Via Villafranca and continue on Via Parauro.
At the roundabout, take the second exit and continue until you reach the starting point.
