Where is Schiavon?
The municipality of Schiavon borders to the north with Marostica, to the northeast with Nove, to the northwest with Colceresa, to the south with Sandrigo, to the east with Nove and Pozzoleone, to the west with Mason Vicentino, Breganze and Sandrigo.
The Whitebait Festival
The Whitebait Festival takes place in the hamlet of Longa in June.
The undisputed protagonist of the event, the whitebait is a tasty small freshwater fish that is breaded, fried and usually served with polenta, baked potatoes or french fries.
Since fried food has a greasy base that can be heavy, many believe that a few drops of lemon can help refresh the palate, but not everyone agrees, as excessive acidity could compromise the delicate aroma of the fish. The dish is also served in saor, that is, cooked with onions, vinegar and pine nuts.
In addition to culinary specialties, which include grilled meat and local wine excellences, the celebration also includes outdoor musical performances, dance evenings and painting exhibitions.
If you wonder what to do in Schiavon and want to spend carefree moments with delicious local dishes, dancing and live music, attending the Whitebait Festival is certainly a recommended experience!
The church of Santa Margherita
Located at Via Danta Alighieri, 25, the parish church of Schiavon features a double-pitched façade punctuated by Ionic pilasters surmounted by the architrave, frieze and dentilled pediment crowned by three statues.
Accessible through a finely carved wooden door, the church has a checkerboard floor and houses fine altars in polychrome marbles.
Rising alongside the parish church, the soaring bell tower features four mullioned windows framed by a refined architecture culminating in a curved tympanum. The vertical development of the structure is concluded by the spire set on an octagonal drum.
The church of San Giovanni Battista
Located at Via Simoni, 22, 36060 Longa (VI), the church of San Giovanni Battista is vertically articulated by robust pilasters that separate the prominent central section from the side wings.
Elegant moldings in turn divide the façade into three superimposed orders:
In the lower section, punctuated by horizontal fluting, opens the portal adorned with quadrangular panels and enclosed by a suggestive architecture formed by slender pilasters and an arch bearing a pictorial decoration.
Distinguished by a lively yellow tone and adorned with a motif of hanging arches under the cornice, the second order features in the center an elaborate rose window decorated with a tracery that resembles the figure of a flower. Laterally, two red crosses are set in white circular medallions.
At the top of the façade, three solemn statues stand out, flanked by two sculptures placed at a lower height.
Villa Chiericati
One of the most significant elements of the architectural heritage of the municipality of Schiavon, Villa Chiericati is a splendid centuries-old building carefully restored.
Located at Via Peraro, 7, Schiavon (VI), the sumptuous noble residence is immersed in a vast and well-kept green area that includes a lively pond, a typical element of romantic gardens.
Partially hidden by the dense foliage of majestic centuries-old trees, the piano nobile is accessible via a sumptuous staircase. The façade of the manor house is punctuated by Ionic pilasters (recognizable by the large volutes) that separate the entrance door, surmounted by a glass lunette, from the side windows topped by blind arches.
Concluded by architrave, frieze and triangular dentilled pediment, the central body is flanked by long wings internally illuminated by elegant windows with parapets.
