Bike ride in Musile di Piave
Departure from the car park in Piazzale dell’Artigliere
The recommended cycling itinerary starts from the car park in Piazzale dell’Artigliere. Leave the memorial monument behind you, turn right and follow Via Guglielmo Marconi. Approaching Piazza Libertà, sheltered by the shade of the dark fronds of tall cedars, the crowns of maritime pines and young oaks, the outline of the bulk of the parish church of Musile di Piave and its soaring red brick bell tower becomes increasingly detailed.
The majestic parish church of Musile di Piave
The salient façade of the solemn brick building is marked by four pilasters connected by blind pointed arches. Flanked by tall mullioned windows, the massive wooden door is surmounted by a lunette bearing a pictorial depiction of Jesus Christ, Joseph and Mary, above which stands out the large rose window in which evocative trefoil arches in white stone open.
A further element of architectural value are the white spires culminating in an octagonal spire placed laterally with respect to the majestic metal cross that stands out at the top of the façade.
The bell tower is distinguished by its elegant belfry with a mullioned window on each side surmounted by an elaborate tracery, above which rises a spire bearing a rose window at its center. Completing the vertical development of the structure is the spire with a square base on which a cross is set.
Continuing along the cycle/pedestrian path
You are in front of the church façade, turn left and go along Via Roma for 350 meters. At the roundabout take the first exit and proceed for about 60 meters, then cross the pedestrian crossing and enter the cycle/pedestrian path.
Continue along the cycle/pedestrian path until you reach a fork, keep right and continue until you reach the provincial road. Cross the pedestrian crossing and turn left onto the Basso Piave cycle path.
The path winds through the thick tree vegetation, following the winding course of the bends of the river sacred to the homeland.
Follow the dirt path venturing among lush specimens of acacias, poplars, plane trees and ashes until you emerge onto Via Tiro a Segno. Turn right and proceed for about 15 meters, then turn right again and resume the suggestive cycling route. Continue for 3.8 km, then turn onto Via Treviso (45.63639925039856, 12.525431105853153).
Along Via Treviso to the Parco Incantato
Continue south along Via Treviso to the intersection with the provincial road, then turn left and continue for about 100 meters. Cross the pedestrian crossing, turn right and proceed along the cycle/pedestrian path that flanks the public green area of Parco Incantato.
After passing the vast tree-lined garden, continue for 400 meters along Via Don N. Simionato, then turn left onto Via Bosco. Proceed for 900 meters, then turn slightly right and continue along Via Bosco, immersing yourself in the vast rural landscape of the Venetian hinterland where endless corn fields extend, interrupted by the regular succession of rows of vineyards. At the end of Via Bosco, cross the road and continue on Via Cascinelle, along which pale canopies of willows and white poplars appear here and there.
The church of S. Maria delle Bonifiche
At the end of Via Cascinelle in the hamlet of Lazzaretto, in front of Osteria da Stefy, turn right and go along Via Millepertiche for 2.6 km, along which the flourishing marsh vegetation of water reeds and Brachiaria mutica grows luxuriantly, until you find on your left the white double-pitched façade of the church of S. Maria delle Bonifiche, parish of Millepertiche.
Characterized externally by a sober and unadorned style, the place of worship of classical taste has a double-pitched façade tripartite by four pilasters surmounted by the architrave and the denticulated triangular pediment.
Accessible via a large arched wooden door, the interior of the church receives sunlight from eight large lunette windows.
Leave the church façade on your left and continue along Via Millepertiche for 2.3 km, surrounded by prosperous endless vineyards as well as golden fields of wheat and corn that envelop traditional rustic farmhouses.
At the intersection with Via Fossetta, turn left and continue for 4.8 km until you reach the Osteria Al Pescatore di Antonio Esposito. Turn left onto Via Giuseppe Garibaldi, after 110 meters turn right onto Via Cesare Battisti and enter the cycle path from which you can enjoy a charming view of the Sile.
Pass by the ruin of a rural dwelling devoured by ivy, then cross the bridge, turn left (sharp curve) and continue along the Sile cycle path. Pass under the Provincial Road and keep left until you reach the Portegrandi basin.
At this point you will find on your left (45.55609510306819, 12.445142915834872) a narrow metal bridge, after crossing which you will reach the starting point of the fascinating naturalistic itinerary of the Taglio del Piave.
The pleasant path stretches for 8.6 km through the thick vegetation of green reed beds and sedges and offers a spectacular panoramic view of the Venice lagoon. Along the way you can also spot, with a little patience, splendid specimens of herons.
Once you reach the Pontoon Bridge of Caposile, cross the river and turn left onto Via IV Novembre. After about 180 meters turn right and enter the roundabout, take the second exit and continue along the provincial road for 1.5 km, then turn left onto Via Pietra. Leave on your left a large three-story farmhouse framed by tall cypress poplars and continue along Via Pietra keeping left. After the underpass, proceed to the intersection and turn right.
Return
Rejoin the provincial road and continue for 2.2 km in the shade of tall plane trees. At the roundabout take the first exit onto Via Martiri and continue for 1.3 km until you return to the parish church of Musile di Piave.
