Path along the Piave
The starting point of the recommended itinerary is the parking lot in Via IV Novembre, which you will find on your right shortly after passing Villa Greguol (45.67858780617657, 12.491037274906772). If the parking lot is occupied, turn right and park near the post office.
Continue along Via IV Novembre to the roundabout, take the first exit and proceed 160 meters along Via Gustavo Baldini, flanking picturesque terraced buildings, then turn left into the side street that leads to the grassy embankment from which you can admire the vast rural landscape of cornfields and flourishing hedges lapped by the course of the Piave, among which stand out the towering canopies of dark cypress poplars.
Once you reach the embankment, turn right and continue for about 260 meters until you reach some didactic panels that illustrate some of the key moments of World War I on the front of the river sacred to the homeland.
If you are wondering what to do in Zenson di Piave and want to discover a pleasant natural and historical location among the most significant in the Veneto region, following the itinerary that winds along the bends of the Piave will surely be just the thing for you!
Church of San Benedetto Abate
Located in the historic heart of Zenson di Piave at Via Isola, 3, the church of San Benedetto Abate is one of the most representative monuments in the artistic and architectural landscape of the municipality.
Built a few steps from the course of the Piave River, the majestic place of worship is recognizable by its imposing salient facade in the center of which two massive wooden doors are set within a large round arch slightly splayed, above which stand out three circular openings, two lateral and one central inside the triangular tympanum at the top.
Two massive pillars frame the main entrance, separating it from the side portals, also surmounted by perforated oculi from which the profile of Greek crosses emerges.
Externally characterized by a severe and austere appearance, the parish church of Zenson di Piave has internally a single large hall adorned with pictorial works. Located along the sides of the nave, six richly decorated chapels with gaudy tones contain sumptuous secular altars. The organ and choir are instead placed in the apse that concludes the presbyteral area.
Villa Da’ Mula Mora Sernagiotto
Located at Via Isola 60, 31050 Zenson di Piave in the province of Treviso (TV), Villa Da’ Mula Sernagiotto is a spectacular centuries-old private villa, the fruit of the genius of the great Venetian architect Andrea Tirali (Venice, 1657 – Monselice, 28 June 1737).
Set in the serene and flourishing rural landscape of the plain of the Marca Trevigiana, the 18th-century noble residence that can be admired today is the result of a careful reconstruction process after the devastating bombings of World War I had irreparably compromised its structure.
The stables and the porticoed barchesse, the only buildings that survived the destruction of the Great War, together with the white family oratory of classical taste, constitute the most evocative elements of the stately architectural complex.
Nuova Industria Biscotti Crich Spa
I remember when, at dawn on a summer morning, we had set off by bicycle from Breda di Piave towards Jesolo and, passing through the municipality of Zenson along Via Argine San Marco, a pleasant whiff of cookie scent surprised us for a few seconds as if to wish us a good journey.
Located at Via Alcide De Gasperi, 11, 31050 Zenson di Piave (TV), Nuova Industria Biscotti Crich S.p.A. is one of the most internationally loved companies of confectionery specialties (and not only) thanks to the excellent quality of selected raw materials combined with talent, creativity, passion and experience gained over more than one hundred and fifty years.
The constant commitment dedicated to innovation and the gaze always turned to the future are based on the solid foundations of tradition and love for pastry-making that had led the Cristofoletto family to found in 1870 the confectionery company that twenty years later would be named CRICH.
In-depth knowledge and skills in baking handed down through generations led the CRICH industry to receive important recognition for the genuine goodness of their confectionery products, with the taste and fragrance typical of homemade biscuits.
Following the remarkable success and consequent expansion and modernization during the 20th century, the CRICH industry was taken over in the early 2000s by the Rossetto family, whose foresight and professionalism allowed the historic Treviso-based company to evolve and continue its growth path by exporting Italian excellence worldwide and creating a line of organic products in the context of maximum respect for the environment and the consumer.
